HardHeavy News And More

VISIONS OF ATLANTIS - (2018) The Deep & The Dark

This is not the first time a new album from Visions Of Altantis drops out and I simply don't care but then I found out it had Clementine and Siegfried on vocals, so I had to check this one out.

The album starts with my two favourite songs on it and it goes on in a great symphonic metal vibe. Other highlights are "The Silent Mutiny", "Book Of Nature", "Dead Reckoning" and "Words Of War". The only weak parts of the album are the ballad songs which are way below average.

Going through their discography, they had quite a few line-up changes during the years and I really hope they can go on with more albums with the current one.

SHIRAZ LANE - (2018) Carnival Days

Shiraz Lane is one of these new bands in the glam rock genre and here they arrive with their second album.

Please skip the first song which is just boring, besides that we have some cool songs and some very strong songs with the highlights being "The Crown", "Harder To Breathe", "Shangri-La", "War Of Mine", "Shot Of Life" and "Hope".

The first spin of their new album it didn't bring that much attention to me but after some spins I find this a really nice album. Fans of Skid Row and Crashdiet will enjoy this album a lot!

THE DEAD DAISIES - (2018) Burn It Down

Even though they have been active for 5 years now, it was later last year that I heard them for the first time.

The album kicks of superb with "Ressurected" but the next songs are just way below the opener. From the middle to the end we have the album going up again with the songs "Bitch", "Dead And Gone", "Can't Take It With You" and "Leave Me Alone".

This is a nice hard rock album but I still prefer their previous two albums. If the album had a tracklist order a little different, this could be more attractive to my ears.

SAXON - (2018) Thunderbolt

I remember the first album I got from these guys was the 1999 masterpiece "Metalhead" and they are now with album #22 in their discography.

I wasn't that pleased with the singles released but now listening to the full album, what a great album this is. There are no fillers here, all songs are just Saxon! My favourites here in order are "The Secret Of Flight", "Predator", "A Wizard's Tale", "They Played Rock And Roll", "Thunderbolt" and "Sniper".

Saxon always brings a good heavy metal album and this time they have done it again.

CRYSTAL BALL - (2018) Crystallizer

I've been a fan of the band since their first albums with Mark Sweeney on vocals and their recent hard rock albums with Steven on vocals have been quite good too.

On the new album the band experiences a darker side on some songs, which are done brilliant on "Beauty In The Beast" and "Death On Holy Ground". On the hard rock side, the highlights are "Alive For Evermore", "S.O.S.", "Crazy In The Night" and "Dusty Deadly" but the stand-out song is "Curtain Call", which is simply amazing with a chorus to sing along for days.

This is another great album in the Crystal Ball discography, be sure to check this out!

MAD HATTER - (2018) Mad Hatter

I was browsing the Internet when I came across the release of this album and the cover artwork really attracted my attention, which made me look for this band and listened to their single "Face The Truth", which is just brilliant.

On to the album, apart from the single, we have some catchy power metal songs such as "The Gunslinger", "Dancing Light", "Go", "Phantom Riders", "Vengeance In His Mind", "Bring Me The Moon" and "Mad Hatter Become".

Overall, I have highlighted all of the songs except the opener which makes this album so powerful. Fans of old Helloween will enjoy this album a lot.

ROYAL HUNT - (2018) Cast In Stone

Royal Hunt's sound are very known in the metal scene, lots of keyboards and a lot instrumental on the songs and here we find the same stuff.

The first two songs on the album are by way far the strongest ones on the album. Other good songs are "The Wishing Well" and "A Million Ways To Die".

I can't describe on which level is this album compared to other ones by them as I'm not very familiar with their full discography, overall this is a good album with few songs.

MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST - (2018) Resurrection

Michael Schenker has reunited some of the vocalists he worked with throughtout his career on this new "Resurrection" record and the outcome has been quite good.

The album starts with three of my favourite songs "Heart And Soul", "Warrior" and "Take Me To The Church". The songs are very well distributed on the album, we have some Ok songs and other great songs such as "The Girl With The Stars In Her Eyes", "Everest", "Time Knows When It's Time" and "The Last Supper".

If you're a fan of classic / melodic rock, don't miss this album!

FM - (2018) Atomic Generation

FM has never been one of my favourite bands on the hard rock / AOR genre even though I've listened to some of their past albums but not that much to remember all of them quite well.

Their new album has some great songs and some songs not so memorable, I would highlight here my favourite "Killed By Love", the rocker "Too Much Of A Good Thing", the bluesy "Playing Tricks On Me" and the ballad "Do You Love Me Enough".

Overall this is a good album with some of that blues side on it. This is not an album that I will be grabbing to listen from time to time.

HEAVATAR - (2018) Opus II (The Annihilation)

Heavatar for those who don't know is the other band of Stefan Schmidt (one of Van Canto's vocalists) and I only discovered about them with the release of their first single "None Shall Sleep" later last year.

The album starts with the afore mentioned song which is a great song to start the album and goes on in the same vein of Van Canto sound but with "real guitars". Other highlights are the brilliant "Purpose Of A Virgin Mind", the classical "The Annihilation" and "A Battle Against All Hope", the catchy "Wake Up Now" and the Manowar cover of "Metal Daze".

This is a nice power metal album with some classical touches on it, some points off on the album due to the last song which is an orchestral version which is just boring to listen to.

DREAM OCEAN - (2018) Lost Love Symphony

Recently I've enjoyed more female fronted bands and there are plenty of new bands and some old bands out there, here we have Dream Ocean from Turkey with their debut album.

After the long intro we have a good start with "Beyond The Greed" and the album goes on in the same style with the next songs "Hain", "Everstorm" and "Forever" but unfortunately through the middle of the album the songs don't grab that much attention. I would also highlight the songs "Wolfheart" and "Never Enough".

The album goes a a little bit over the 60-minute mark and they could drop out some of the weak songs to get this album a higher rating.

MYSTIC PROPHECY - (2018) Momuments Uncovered

Mystic Prophecy is a band that I've come to know them recently and their discography have some great albums, now they have come up with an album of only cover songs.

Honestly I didn't know many of the songs when I saw the tracklist but when I started listening to it, I've recognized some of them. The only ones that did come to my mind first was the opener "You Keep Me Hangin' On" which is done superb by them as well as "Because The Night". Other highlights on the album are "Hot Stuff", "Shadow On The Wall", "I'm Still Standing" and "Proud Mary".

Besides some bad reviews I've read, I really enjoy this album and I'll be playing it more times during the year.

CHRIS BAY - (2018) Chasing The Sun

Chris Bay, the vocalist behind melodic metal band Freedom Call has decided to release his first solo album consisting more of only the happy sides of his band.

We have some songs easily forgotten but there are also some songs really enjoyable for my taste even though they can be considered as happy rock. Favourite songs here are the opener "Flying Hearts" and the single "Radio Starlight" which has a chorus that sometimes I have myself singing alone out of nowhere. Other highlights are "Silent Cry", "Misty Rain" and "Bad Boyz".

This is not a metal album, this is not a rock album but if you're a fan of the happy side of Freedom Call, check this out!

AUDREY HORNE - (2018) Blackout

Audrey Horne is a band with some time on the road but it was at the end of last year that I've discovered their music and here we have their new album "Blackout".

The album starts very nice with 3 of my favourite songs on the album being the opener "This Is War" the stand-out on the whole album. Other highlights are "Midnight Man", "Satellite" and "Rose Alley".

Apart from some Ok songs on it, I recommend this very nice hard rock album.

PANORAMA - (2018) Around The World

Here it comes another project or maybe a new band for the future, this one featuring Christian Palin (Random Eyes vocalist) and Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69 bassist).

The album is full of melodic and catchy tunes but the ones that stands out the most are in order "The Glory Within", "Heart Has Been Broken", "Around The World", "World On Fire", "One For All" and "The Highest Mountain".

Let's hope there's from them in the future, great debut album!

ODYSSEY DESPERADO - (2018) Don't Miss The Sunset

Here we have the debut of greek band Odyssey Desperado and I'm lucky to have listened to this.

On to the album we have a very nice selection of 10 songs and my favourites here are "Rush Of The Wave", "You And Me Against The World", "Holding On To A Dream" and "Fragile".

The album is pure melodic rock with some catchy songs and some slow-tempo songs, the vocalist remembers a lot of David A Saylor. This is one debut album worth checking it out!

ARMORED DAWN - (2018) Barbarians In Black

Armored Dawn is a band I've seen their name before drop out somewhere but I never had a chance to listen and I didn't even know they were here from Brazil.

The opener of the album is just an average song compared to the other amazing songs on the album. The main highlights are "Bloodstone", "Chance To Live Again", "Unbreakable", "Sail Away" and "Survivor". I just have some problems with the song "Barbarians In Black".

I was luck I had clicked in one of their videos at YouTube and have come to know about them. This is one hell of an album, the only problem is that this is just a 40-minute play. Fans of Orden Ogan and Sabaton will enjoy it.

REACH - (2018) The Great Divine

Reach has arrived with their debut album in 2015 with so much energy and as they hail from Sweden, I was thinking they could be a new H.E.A.T., Eclipse, Dynazty, etc.

The album starts amazing with the first 3 songs being the best on it, "Into Tomorrow", "The Great Divine" and "Live Or Die" are great songs but the next songs are just Ok ones which doesn't grab that much attention, I would just add "Off The Edge" and "Running On Empty" as other highlights.

On this new album they have experienced some modern sounds on which I didn't think it fit so well, this doesn't make this a bad album but I was kind of hoping for more from them. Let's wait a new record from them to judge if they will shine in the future!

JOHAN KIHLBERG'S IMPERA - (2018) Age Of Discovery

Going straight to review the songs on the album! We have "Fear" which is the song that stands out the most on the album together with "Falling" and the closure "It's A Revolution". There are also some good songs such as "Just A Conversation" and "The Right Stuff".

Overall this is a very enjoyable melodic rock album to listen to some songs from time to time but it won't make the top albums of the year.

DENIED - (2018) Freedom Of Speech

I am a big fan of Jaded Heart and here we have an album with Johan Fahlberg on vocals and other guest vocalists too.

The first song from the album is not really the best but then the album shows some great songs on it. The highlights here are "The Other Side", "Scarred Soul", "Don't You Know Me" and the Twisted Sister cover "Stay Hungry".

This is not a melodic rock album and don't look for catchy choruses here but this a great effort from Denied!

BLOOD RED SAINTS - (2018) Love Hate Conspiracies

Blood Red Saints debut album was very good to me and with the singles released for the new album, I was amazed by the songs such as I was with their debut album.

The highlights on the album are right at the beginning which are the singles "Live & Die" and "Wake Up" but then the album falls off a lot in quality. Be sure to check out also the rockers "It Is Over" and "Turn On The Night" and that's it!

I had to make some spins on their new album to see if it was good or not but this is way far from good such as their debut album.

NOCTURNAL RITES - (2017) Phoenix

Since the phenomenal "Afterlife" released back in 2000 that Nocturnal Rites has been on top of the melodic metal scene, after the criticized "The 8th Sin" the band is now back after a 10-year hiatus with "Phoenix".

What we have here is a perfect album from beginning to end, from melodic songs to dark songs and softer songs, from catchy choruses to normal ones but it fits perfect on the overall of each song. My top-5 on the album are "What's Killing Me", "A Heart As Black As Coal", "A Song For You", "Repent My Sins" and "The Ghost Inside Me".

Nocturnal Rites strikes back with greatness that makes this my #1 album of 2017.

CYHRA - (2017) Letters To Myself

Since the departure of Jake E from Amaranthe and the announcement of his new band Cyhra, I was eagerly waiting for the final result.

The album starts with their first single "Karma" which has a chorus just as catchy as the standards with his former band. Going through the album you can find many similarities with Amaranthe such as the songs being short and the guitar sounds / pop elements. Other highlights on the album are the heavy "Heartrage" which is just brilliant, the slow-up tempos "Here To Save You", "Muted Life" and "Dark Clarity", the catchy "Letter To Myself" and "Rescue Ride" and the kind of pop "Holding Your Breath". Even though songs #10 and #11 are just pretty bad I rank this album top 10 of the year.

If you're into modern metal, be sure to check out this amazing debut album.

ECLIPSE - (2017) Monumentum

What can I say about Eclipse? They are to me currently the kings of melodic rock and hail from the country none other than Sweden!

This album is all about amazing songs, there are no fillers! I could highlight here all the songs but the ones that really makes this album simply amazing are the catchy "Never Look Back", "Killing Me" which is my favorite on the album, "The Downfall Of Eden" with such a strong chorus, the powerful "Born To Lead" and the anthemic "For Better Or For Worse".

It's a shame Eclipse have not yet exploded worldwide and I really hope one day they can come to South America.

BLOODBOUND - (2017) War Of Dragons

After some vocalist changes in the line-up, Bloodbound found in 2012 the right spot for it with Patrik Johansson.

On this album the band give a shot to a lot of chanting choruses but this is very well done by the band. The huge highlights on the album are "King Of Swords" which might be their best song ever, "Battle In The Sky", "Stand And Fight", "Fallen Heroes", "Dragons Are Forever" and "Silver Wings".

Another great album by Bloodbound I wish they could re-record some of their old songs with Patrik on lead vocals.

KEE OF HEARTS - (2017) Kee Of Hearts

Here we have another "project" by Frontiers with two great musicians, Tommy Heart (Fair Warning vocalist) and Kee Marcello (ex-Europe guitarist).

The album starts just great with two of my favorite songs "The Storm" and "A New Dimension". Other highlights here are the great melodic rock songs "Stranded", "S.O.S." and "Learn To Love Again" and also the great slow up-tempo songs "Bridge To Heaven", "Mama Don't Cry" and "Edge Of Paradise".

I can say that at first this was not the best album for me but after some spins, this is pure magic and one of the best melodic rocks in 2017.

SERENITY - (2017) Lionheart

Since the amazing "War Of Ages" album, Serenity has been in my top favorite bands of the power/symphonic metal genre.

The album starts just great after the intro with the song "United" that can be in the future to be considered one of the metal hymns. The next 3 songs are also great but Serenity really knows how to make ballad songs and with "Heaven" they have done it again, such a brilliant song. Other highlights here are the amazing "Eternal Victory" and "Empire", the catchy "Stand And Fight" and the final song "The Final Crusade" closes the album just perfect.

Some might judge Georg’s accent but for me fits perfect on the band. This is better than "Codex Atlanticus" but still "War Of Ages" is #1 from them for me.

REVOLUTION SAINTS - (2017) Light In The Dark

Their debut album was so strong and with the announcement of a new album from them I was hoping for another strong effort from them.

Of course there are some great tunes here but this doesn't get any closer to their debut album, the only highlights close to the amazing songs from the debut album are "Don't Surrender", "Can't Run Away From Love" and "Running On The Edge".

Anyways, nice to see that Frontiers didn't see this as a project for one-album release and I hope a next one from them is better than this one!

SERIOUS BLACK - (2017) Magic

Not one year after the release of "Mirrorworld" here comes Serious Black with another album release, 3 albums in 3 years!!

The album starts very nice with the speedy "Binary Magic" and goes on with the song "Burn! Witches Burn!" which has a very nice chorus. Other highlights on the album are the slow up-tempo "Now You'll Never Know" with a short chorus just beautiful, the dark "I Can Do Magic", the anthemic "Serious Black Magic" with another brilliant chorus, the catchy "The Witch Of Caldwell Town" and the short "Newfound Freedom".

I've been a fan of the band since their amazing debut album and even though their albums are released so short one after another, they are all great but "Magic" is ranked #3 on their discography to me.

ONE DESIRE - (2017) One Desire

Frontiers has always come up with many good projects and new bands and here they are with One Desire which features André Linman (Sturm Und Drang vocalist).

The album starts with my favorite songs on the album, the rockers "Hurt" which is just brilliant and "Apologize". What makes this album interesting to me is that the slow up-tempo songs fails to impress me as much as the rocker songs, the one that stands out the most would be "Whenever I'm Dreaming". Other highlights are the songs "Straight Through The Heart" which has a riff that reminds me a lot of the "Home Alone" movie theme and "Buried Alive" which is pretty damn fast in regards to the other songs on the album.

This is a great hard rock album by another band from Sweden and I'll be looking for more albums from them in the future.

THE UNGUIDED - (2017) And The Battle Royale

The Unguided has arrived with their 4th album just one year after their amazing album "Lust And Loathing", this is now the first album by the band with new vocalist Jonathan Thorpenberg which delivers so powerful vocals.

During the whole album we have just perfect songs and the songs that stands out the most for me are the catchy "The Heartbleed Bug", the brilliant “Legendary” on which the chorus sticks in your mind for days, the aggressive "Force Of Nature" and "Nighttaker" which was the first released at end of 2016 to announce the signing of Jonathan to the band.

I really like this mix-up of clean and harsh vocals and The Unguided has been in the recent years one of my top ranked bands. Keep it coming with new great albums!

THE FERRYMEN - (2017) The Ferrymen

When I heard about this new project in 2016 with Magnus Karlsson (great songwriter) and Ronnie Romero (one of the best new vocalists) I was eagerly waiting for their debut album and I was sure this was going to be amazing.

It's hard to describe the highlights on this album as all the songs are very well done but if I could choose 5 highlight songs it would be "Still Standing Up", "Fool You All", "End Of The Road", "Eternal Night" and "Eyes On The Sky".

I was no wrong and this is really an amazing debut album, this is for sure in my top #10 albums of 2017!

BROTHER FIRETRIBE - (2017) Sunbound

Brother Firetribe is all about melodic rock with memorable choruses and great melodies and here they are back with their 4th album.

On their new album the band offers the same sound and here we have more hymns by them such as "Help Is On The Way", "Indelible Heroes" and "Give Me Tonight". Other highlights on the album are "Last Forever" and "Heart Of The Matter". Need to point out the songs "Shock" and "Phantasmagoria" which are just boring to listen.

Another great release by the band but their debut album is still memorable and their best for me!

KRYPTONITE - (2017) Kryptonite

The first time I saw this line-up being together I knew something good was coming and I wasn't wrong.

We have on this debut album the great rockers "Chasing Fire", "This Is The Moment", "Get Out Be Gone" and "Better Than Yesterday", the slow up-tempos "Fallen Angels" and "One Soul", the brilliant "Love Can Be Stronger" and the amazing ballad "Knowing Both Of Us".

Just hope this is not an only album from them and they come back with another killer album soon.

FRODE HOVD'S ALDARIA - (2017) Land Of Light

After the brilliant idea of Tobias Sammet to record these metal operas, we had some others to follow the same path and now we have the debut album of Aldaria consisting of many vocalists that are one of my favorites in the metal scene.

The album starts just great with the amazing songs "Another Life" and "Guardians Of The Light", other highlights on the album are "Lost In The Darkness Below", "Trail Of Tears", "Where Reality Ends", "From The Ashes" and the epic "Land Of Light".

If you like these opera power metal albums be sure to check this out but don't compare this to the Avantasia masterpieces.

VICTORIUS - (2017) Heart Of The Phoenix

Even though Victorius has already released 3 albums and are active with a full-length album since 2010, last year was the first time I got to know about them.

The album is all about fast-paced songs such as the amazing opener "Shadow Warriors" and goes on with great songs throughtout the album that is hard to highlight all of them here. Huge highlights on the album are "Hero", "Sons Of Orion", "Heart Of The Phoenix", "Beyond The Iron Sky" and "A Million Lightyears".

Fans of DragonForce and early Stratovarius will highly appreciate this album which is on my list of top albums of 2017.

ORDEN OGAN - (2017) Gunmen

Orden Ogan's new album goes from very good to good in the running order of it.

Right here we have some pretty anthemic songs which starts with the first single "Gunman" and then it comes my favorite on the album, the amazing "Fields Of Sorrow" with such a chorus that sticks in your mind for days. The next 3 songs are also very enjoyable with a highlight for the catchy "Vampire In Ghost Town". In the last 5 songs which are just Ok ones, the song that would stand out from them is "Down Here (Wanted Dead Or Alive)".

It's not that the songs from #6 on are bad, it's just that the first 5 songs on the album are brilliant. Overall this is a very enjoyable album.

PYRAMAZE - (2017) Contingent

Pyramaze has become known to me since their signing of Matt Barlow some years ago but it was with the release of "Disciples Of The Sun" that the band has become one of my favorite bands due to the great songs on it and the amazing vocals by Terje Haroy.

On to the album, we have very nice songs through the 13 tracks (actually 11 songs) but some filler songs too. The song that stands out the most are the brilliant "A World Divided" and "Nemesis". Other highlights on the album are "Land Of Information", "Kingdom Of Solace", "20 Second Century" and "The Tides That Won't Change".

This is another great release by Pyramaze but I still think "Disciples Of The Sun" was a better album than "Contingent".

SECRET SPHERE - (2017) The Nature Of Time

Secret Sphere is a band I heard their name before in the past but I come to listen to their discography from 2 to 3 years ago and I realized that I was missing such a great power metal band from Italy.

Here we have a concept album with some great songs on it but there are few ones that grabs you listening for days like some classics from the band. The highlights are the catchy songs "The Calling" and "Courage", the ballad "Kindness" and the long "The Awakening".

I was a bit disappointed with the new album, maybe because "Portrait Of A Dying Heart" was such a masterpiece to the ears that is hard to be topped, but this is still quite an enjoyable album to listen from time to time.

ART NATION - (2017) Liberation

Art Nation's debut album was definitely a shocking album and it was in my top 3 albums of 2015 and I was really looking forward a new album from them.

Their songs are all about great rhythms and catchy choruses and here they have another shot of great songs with highlights to "Ghost Town", "The Real Me", "Kiss Up & Kick Down", "One Nation", "Take Me Home", "Paralyzed" and "What Do You Want".

This is a great album but it doesn't get closer to their amazing debut album which all songs on it were just perfect. I still can see a bright future for them.

DREAM EVIL - (2017) Six

Dream Evil is finally back with a new album and with the first two singles released I was really looking forward to listen to the whole album.

The songs "Dream Evil" and "Antidote" starts the album with great power but then we have a list of songs that are Ok or just boring to listen, please stay away from songs such as "Six Hundred And 66" and "How To Start A War" which I can't believe was done by Dream Evil.

After you listen to the first two songs, skip to the song "Too Loud" and the anthemic "We Are Forever" or just go get one of the previous 5 albums by the band.

H.E.A.T. - (2017) Into The Great Unknown

H.E.A.T. is one of my favorite bands and when I first listened their new album, I was kind of worried (just as I was with "Maximalism" from Amaranthe) but I decided to give the new H.E.A.T. more spins just as I did with Amaranthe's "Maximalism" and I really enjoy this album a lot on which these two mentioned albums are the ones I'm listening the most recently.

My favorite songs here are the opener "Bastard Of Society", the fantastic "Eye Of The Storm" and the ground-breaking "Blind Leads The Blind". We have very nice songs with pop elements such as "Redefined", "Time On Our Side" and "Best Of The Broken". The weak moments on the album are the songs "Do You Want It?" and "Shit City".

I had quite a hard time to accept the replacement of Kenny by Erik on the band's third album and now again with the new album but after some spins this is a really great album to listen!

PLACE VENDOME - (2017) Close To The Sun

Place Vendome is where somehow got Michael Kiske back to metal in 2005 with their brilliant debut album and now we have their fourth album released.

The first three songs are just breath-taking and other huge highlights or else I would point almost all the songs are the ballad "Strong", the fantastic "Riding The Ghost", the slow up-tempo of "Falling Star" and the blues-rock "Yesterday Is Gone".

This album goes sometimes from metal to hard rock and even to a blues rock and this is very fun to listen and it has Michael Kiske, so check it out!

POWER QUEST - (2017) Sixth Dimension

Power Quest decided to take a break in 2011 and now they’re back 6 years later with a masterpiece!

The album starts just great with "Lords Of Tomorrow" and goes on with my favorite track of the album "Starlight City" and then it comes the happy/fast "Kings And Glory" with such amazing chorus. Going on with a short track-by-track review we have the pure melodic "Face The Raven", the great slow up-tempos "No More Heroes" and "Pray For The Day", my least favorite but cool "Revolution Fighters", the slow but fast sometimes "Coming Home" and then it finishes with the epic and cool "The Sixth Dimension".

They have some great albums in their discography but "Sixth Dimension" is just amazing and is one of the best melodic power metal albums released!

ACCEPT - (2017) The Rise Of Chaos

I had the chance to attend to two Accept concerts in the past 3 years here in Brazil but I didn't go to their concert last month as their new album didn't grab my attention as their previous albums.

Accept is all about those choruses that on concerts the crowd sing along with the Oh-ho-ho and on this new album we have the same kind of songs but they are not on the same style as their best songs. My favorite songs here are "Die By The Sword", "Koolaid", "Analog Man" and "Carry The Weight".

From the Tornillo era this is my least favorite album from them.

ALMANAC - (2017) Kingslayer

Victor Smolski has already returned with a new album from Almanac just 1 year after the debut album and wooow this is another amazing album with such powerful songs with catchy choruses lines. David Readman and Andy B. Franck are one of my favorite vocalists on the scene and I really like this idea of putting them together.

I could highlight all of the songs here but I will point out the amazing songs "Children Of The Sacred Flame", "Hail To The King", "Kingdom Of The Blind", "Guilty As Charged" and "Losing My Mind". The rating of the album is a little bit lower because of the ballad song "Last Farewell" which is the weakest on the album.

GODS OF SILENCE - (2017) Neverland

I'm just amazed by this band's debut album! When I first listened to the band's music videos it didn't grab my attention that much but listening to the album, this is just simply magic!

I must point out the song "Demons" which might not be that catchy but is one of the best songs I heard in the last few months!! It's hard to point out the highlights here as every song on the album is great but I would like to mention the songs "Alone", "You Mean Nothing More To Me", "The Phoenix", "Wonderful Years" and "All My Life" which are just breathtaking.

Be sure to check out this great power metal album!

MASTERPLAN - (2017) PumpKings

I really like this idea of when bands re-record their famous albums for anniversary edition with their current line-up and right here we see Roland Grapow decided to get some of his Helloween songs and re-record for Masterplan.

My favorite songs here are "The Chance", "Mr. Ego", "Escalation 666" and "The Dark Ride" but I've also enjoyed the new versions of "Someone's Crying", "Mankind" and "The Time Of The Oath".

It would be better to see this album in the period we had Jorn Lande in the band but I think Rick Altzi delivered good vocals here, this is a nice album to listen.

SHAKRA - (2017) Snakes & Ladders

When you talk about Swiss hard rock the name that comes to mind was always Gotthard but nowadays for me Shakra has topped Gotthard with their recent albums.

The first 4 songs on the album are simply amazing and we have other great songs such as the great ballad "Open Water" and the rockers "Medicine Man", "I Will Rise Again" and "The Race Of My Life".

This is another great album by Shakra but not my favorite from them!

THE NIGHTS - (2017) The Nights

When I first listened to their first song released "Welcome To The Show" the chorus got stuck in my head for weeks and I don't know how many times I've listened on YouTube to this song.

On to the album we have some great AOR music but no song is compared to the opener and previously mentioned song, I would highlight also the songs "Juliette", "In A Blink Of An Eye", "Hold On", the amazing "Elegy (You Should Be Here)", "Take Me To Heaven" and "I Wanna Be Your Superhero".

Very nice debut album from The Nights and on a new album please make sure to have a better artwork.

WARRANT - (2017) Louder, Harder, Faster

Warrant has come up with a good new hard rock album! This is a very enjoyable album to listen with some really great tunes to name but I would highlight the amazing songs "Faded", "Perfect", "Devil Dancer" and "Let It Go".

Robert Mason fits perfectly in the band's line-up and this new album is far better than 2011's "Rockaholic" and I just hope it doesn't take them 5 years to release a new album.

BEAST IN BLACK - (2017) Berserker

When I saw the name of this band I thought this was any new death/black metal band but I enjoyed a lot their singles and give this album a shot and wooow this is Battle Beast with male vocals.

The album starts in such a great way with the song "Beast In Black" and goes on with other stand-out tracks and there would be too many to highlight here but my favorite on the album is "Born Again", it just didn't grab my attention the songs "Zodd The Immortal" and the weak ballad "Ghost In The Rain".

Great debut album and my rating could be higher if it wasn't for the weak songs listed.

DRAGONFORCE - (2017) Reaching Into Infinity

What to expect from a new DF album? All the speed and catchy songs are here again!

Straight to the highlights which are the opener "Ashes Of The Dawn", the catchy "Curse Of Darkness", the fast/amazing "Midnight Madness", the happy "Land Of Shattered Dreams" and the epic "The Edge Of The World".

Good album overall but I'm still waiting one album from them that's going to top the amazing "The Power Within" album!

THE UNITY - (2017) The Unity

What we have here is a mixture of melodic metal with some hard rock elements and I really like the vocals by Gianba Manenti.

This is a very nice debut album but I just found the order of the tracklist on this album quite awkward because after the first two great songs "Rise And Fall" and "No More Lies" we have then a mixture of just Ok songs and great songs which makes me want to skip the Ok songs, be sure to check out the songs "Firesign", "Close To Crazy", "Edens Fall" and then my favorite song on this album which is the amazing "Never Forget".

Overall this is another good album released in 2017.

RAGE - (2017) Seasons Of The Black

I was curious when I first listened to the new Rage album due to some weak reviews I read from it but this album is really nice to listen to.

The new album starts in such a powerful way with the 3 first openers "Seasons Of The Black", "Serpents In Disguise" and "Blackened Karma" being the best ones, we have other cool songs here but to top the first 3 is really hard. I would also highlight the songs "Justify", "Bloodshed In Paradise", "All We Know Is Not" and the ballad "Farewell".

Of course you can't compare this new album with classics of the band such as "Reflections Of A Shadow" which was one of the first albums that I've bought when I was younger, "End Of All Days", "Welcome To The Other Side" and "Soundchaser" but this is a good album from Rage.

EXIT EDEN - (2017) Rhapsodies In Black

I didn't hear of this band before until their first video "Unfaithful" was dropped by Napalm Records last July, this album really has some of the best pop songs out there being turned out to symphonic metal and I enjoy this album a lot.

The first song "Question Of Time" I really wasn't aware of the Depeche Mode version but songs such as the amazing version to "Impossible", the ballad "Heaven" and the catchy songs "Total Eclipse" and "Paparazzi" are worth checking out this album.

For this album to get a best rating I just wish they had Elize Ryd instead of Clementine as I'm a huge fan of Elize and Clementine is not the best out there.

HELL IN THE CLUB - (2017) See You On The Dark Side

This band is all about catchy songs and their new album just starts with the amazing "We Are On Fire" and finishes it perfectly with the epic and brilliant "A Crowded Room", there are some really nice and some Ok songs in the album but what I just didn't like at all are the songs "Houston, We've Got No Money" which is not their best and the just boring ballad "Withered In Venice".

Without these songs I could give out a a higher rating but overall this is another good album by them.

CRAZY LIXX - (2017) Ruff Justice

I've been a fan of Crazy Lixx since their debut album and this new album "Ruff Justice" is my favorite from their discography, the first song "Wild Child" is catchy as hell but we also have some other classic tunes here.

What amazed me the most on this album is the song "Live Before I Die" which is one of the best songs I heard from albums released in 2017.

MIDNITE CITY - (2017) Midnite City

Another new hard rock band which it looks like that I've listened to this recently in some of this other new hard rock bands.

On to the album we have a very promising start with the first 3 songs "We Belong", "Ghosts Of My Old Friends" and "Summer Of Our Lives", other highlights are the fun songs "Can't Wait For The Nights" and "I Just Can't Take It".

This is a very good debut album but since there are many bands in this same style with better albums, this is not an album that I will be listening over and over again.

GALDERIA - (2017) Return Of The Cosmic Men

This is one hell of an awesome power metal album!

This goes from fast songs such as the opener "Shining Unity" and "Legions Of Light" to happy songs such as "Celestial Harmony", "High Up In The Air" and "Wake Up The World 2.0" to the slow-paced "Living Forevermore".

Overall this is one of the best power metal albums I listened recently and this remembers a little bit of the Freedom Call debut album. I'm already looking forward to a new album from them!

COMMUNIC - (2017) Where Echoes Gather

I remember the first time I listened to Communic it reminded me a lot of the old Nevermore records but have never heard from them again until it was dropped new videos from them this year.

I'm not a big fan of these long or double albums but their new album is an Ok one for me with highlights the both parts of "Where Echoes Gather", the long/amazing "Moondance" and the second part of "The Claws Of The Sea" which is a good slow song.

There are some great power/prog metal albums released this year but this one is just an Ok album for me.

FIREWIND - (2017) Immortals

Gus G is an extremely talented guitarist and he's back with his main band after 5 years from the previous album, I've enjoyed pretty much his solo albums where he collected some amazing vocalists but for Firewind we hired Henning Basse (a very good vocalist which since the second album from Metalium released Ok albums since then).

"We Defy" and "Ode To Leonidas" are my favorite ones here but I really thing Henning Basse would not be the best option for future releases of Firewind, maybe he can get back Apollo which fits more the band's sound or get Jacob Bunton which delivered some great vocals on his second solo album.

ADRENALINE MOB - (2017) We The People

Even though I like more the work of Russell Allen with his band Symphony X here it comes Russell again with another Adrenaline Mob album.

The album has some aggressive moments and some "hard rock" moments with catchy songs... if you like the more aggressive side be sure to check out the highlight songs "We The People", "Lords Of Thunder" and "Til The Head Explodes" and if you want the catchy moments be sure to check out the songs "Chasing Dragons", "What You're Made Of" and "The Killer's Inside".

Good effort from the band!

WOLFPAKK - (2017) Wolves Reign

Another great effort by Mark Sweeney and Michael Voss on which they gathered again some great guests here.

The standout tracks here are the amazing "The 10 Commandments", the rockin' "No Remorse" and the epic song "Mother Earth" featuring Ronnie Atkins. Be sure to check out this another great album in their discography!!
